Ford puts Aston Martin up for auction

Ford announced thatone of their premium nameplates is up for auction.The surprise? It’s not Jaguar. The Aston Martin marque will go to the highest bidder, as part of Ford’s Way Forward restructuring plan.Aston Martin is part of Ford’s PAG - Premier Auto Group , and one of the most promising in my eyes. I know Ford is in need of cash, and perhaps this is indeed a good move. After all, Aston is a very low volume brand, so profitability could be difficult to maintain.

I think the next logical move after selling Aston Martin would be to unload Jaguar at a firesale price. Aston Martin has some potential, and should bring some needed cash. Jaguar simply needs to go away, and become the next owner’s problem. Link.

The trend toward small cars

For years, America, especially Texas, has loved huge vehicles. Here in San Antonio, we love F-150’s Expeditions, Dodge Rams and Armadas. Recently though, there’s been a change. There are many more small fuel-efficient cars on the streets today. On the way to work this morning, I saw 2 Toyota Prius hybrids. For San Antonio, that is significant.

With gas near or above $3 per gallon, and oil prices out of control, more people are downsizing than ever before. If you are still considering a large SUV, then this is probably the best time to buy. Incentives are very strong, and dealers are willing to discount them heavily. Are you still consideringa large SUV or truck? If so, why?

5 Things that affect the cost of car insurance

3. The type of car you drive. The difference between a V8 powered car like a Mustang GT, and an economy car like a Honda Civic can be significant. It’s always best to get an insurance quote before you purchase a new car.

4. Your age. Let’s face it - younger drivers tend to be more irresonsible than older drivers. While it’s not always true, it is in most cases.

5. Where you live. Auto insurance rates are higher in places like New Jersey and New York, than they are in Oklahahoma. Why? Well to be honest I’m not really sure. But sure enough, they are. If you’re planning a move, you’ll want to get some insurance quotes first, so you’re not unpleasantly surprised.

Why you need insurance - Part 2

If you haven’t read part 1 of this series, that’s where you’ll want to start.

Now, on to part 2. There are some people who feel that they have enough money to take care of anything themselves. Perhaps the thought of wrecking an S-class Mercedes Benz doesn’t faze them. Why in the world should a person like this have car insurance?

One word - lawsuits. Without car insurance, a lawsuit could take every penny you have to your name. Wealthy people are often seen as targets by the less fortunate, so they must protect themselves. Undoubtedly the cost will be higher, since they need more coverage. It is, however, still necessary. Imagine a minor fender-bender that turns into a multi-million dollar lawsuit, to cover medical damages, maybe a little pain and suffering. All this can be prevented by having the proper insurance coverage.
